This cache location is steeped in history, with stories and
buildings dating back to 1789.
In 1789, this Hall was the location of the first Congregational
Church in St.Johns. Over the years, the building changed hands,
eventually becoming the property of the Longshoremen's Protective
Union. The Longshoremen sought out this location in 1912, so that
the secretary of the Union could look out the window to see the
flags on Signal Hill that indicated any ships were coming in
through the Narrows. This building has a rich history. It has
burned down several times (once in 1817, in 1892 during the Great
Fire, and again in 1922). It has changed hands from the
Congregationalist Church, the Sons of Temperance, the
Longshoremen's Protective Union, and currently, The Resource Centre
for the Arts. The street that this cache is located on is also
considered one of the most haunted streets in St.Johns, hence the
name "Haunted Hall".
