Geocache Description:

Short walk over grass, long in places, and uneven surface.

St. Kessog is said to have come to Scotland as a missionary from Ireland.

The ruin of this kirk is situated beside a burn and is pleasantly secluded. The walls are almost obscured by a thick curtain of Ivy.

Enter the kirk walls where you can see two features in the chancel, one being a late medieval basin and the other being a small recess in the thick walls, used to hold sacred vessels. You can see two leper squints in the west end of the chapel wall.

Following the Reformation, St.Mackessog's remained a parish church for 100 years. The church closed in 1660 when the roof fell in one Sunday a short while after sunday service.

In 1832 the east end was converted into the burial chamber for Hunter of Auchterarder House.

At the time of setting this cache the grass was a carpet of snowdrops, and the trees full of small birds. There is parking space on the roadside for just one car, please dont get stuck on the soft verges.
