A55 North Wales Coast Road
The contractors for the Llandudno to Old Colwyn section took a
period of 40 months to complete.
The contractors for the Old Colwyn to Conwy section took a period
of 38 months to comeplete.
The Concrete unit, known as a Dolo, weighs approximately 5 tons.
There were 22,000 cast for the Primary Sea Defence Works
constructed along the new A55 N Wales coast road at
Llanddullas.
The sea defence works are designed to withstand a storm of a
severity likely to occur on average, once in every 100 years.
If you wonder what the numbers on them are for - here is the
answer.
They are often numbered on the outside so that satellites can
periodically track their movement. This helps engineers gauge
whether they need to add more dolos to the pile.
