Stop at the public overlook along the highway between Tabacundo and Guayllabamba. From here you can see all you need to see for this earthcache plus another major terrain feature.
Pare en el mirador sobre la ruta entre Tabacundo y Guayllabamba. Desde las coordinadas va a ver el lugar del earthcache. Ademas va a ver otra figura geographica importante. Cuidado entrando la ruta debido a la curva en la ruta aqui.
At this location you will see a clear example of how the earth's sedimentary strata has folded. From the posted coordinates you will be standing near a cross erected as a memorial to Freddy Sadvedra who was killed in an automobile accident near this site. As you look south you will see a fold at a place where the road was cut through the mountain.
En ese lugar va a ver un ejemplo claro de como los estratos sedimentarios se doblaron en lo que se llama un plegamiento. En el lugar de las coordinadas estara usted alado de una cruz en memoria de Freddy Sadvedra, muerto en un acidente automobolistico. Mirando al sur va a ver donde doblo los estratos sedimentarios en el lugar donde cortaron la montana para construir la ruta.
Geological folds occur when sedimentary strata, originally flat, bend or curve as a result of pressure build-up in one or more parts of the strata.
Los plegamientos geologicos, siendo originalmente horizontales, ocuren cuando curva los estratos bajo presion en una parte u otra.
Four of the most common types of folds are:
1) Anticline folds - The strata dips away from the center of the strata forming a hump in the center.
2) Syncline folds - The strata at the center dips, forming a dip opposite of an anticline fold.
3) Monocline folds - The strata forms steps in one direction.
4) Recumbent folds - The center of the fold leans over and becomes horizontal, causing the strata to double back on top of itself. It may even look like an "S" shape if there are multiple folds.
Hay cuarto tipos comunes de plegamientos geologicos:
1) Plegamientos Anticlinales - El plegamiento es convexo hacia arriba
2) Plegamiento Sinclinales - El plegamiento es concavo hacia arriba.
3) Plegamientos Monoclinales - El plegamiento forma gradas o escalas en una sola direcion.
4) Plegamientos Recumbentes - El plegamiento se incline a la izquierda o a la derecha de su plano axial. Puede tomar la forma de un "S".

2) From a visual survey or from a map identify the major terrain feature located at 90 degrees from you location in the distance and on the horizon. Send your answer to me. Please do not post your answer in your log.
3) Optional but appreciated: Take a photograph of yourself with you GPSr standing at the Freddy Sadvedra cross NOT showing the fold. Please post the photo with your log.

2) Mirando el terreno o por mirar el mapa identifique la figura geografica ubicada a 90 grados desde su locacion y sobre el horizonte. Por favor envie su respuesta a mi correo electronico.
3) Opcional: Tome una foto de si mismo con su GPSr parandose cerca a la cruz en memoria de Freddy Sadvedra pero SIN mostrar el plegamiento en su foto. Por favor, agrege su foto.
