400 years Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

JoesBar: Three years and just over 150 finders. I felt it was just time to retire this one. I haven't visited here in some time and I had a heck of a time finding my own cache. But I did find it and retrieved it. No geotrash or 'armchair archive' from me.

Geocache Description:

The cache is hidden near a very old red oak.  I was told by a naturalist that this tree is over 400 years old.  Think about that.  This tree began its' life about the same time the Jamestown settelment was begun in VA.

This cache is located in the North Chagrin reservation of the Cleveland Metroparks.  Park at the A. B. Williams Woods parking lot.  The trailhead is at the end of the lot.  There is a sign with a trail map right there.  You can use this link for a map too:
North Chagrin Trails
You will be following two trails to get to the cache. Start on the Sylvan Loop Trail. The marker has a maple leaf with an orange background.
You will then change to the Overlook trail. It has an oak leaf with a tan background. the cache is just off the Overlook Trail.
I suggest you continue on the Overlook trail to the end.  This trail is out and back.  There you will find a shelter that was built by the Cilvilan Conservation Corps in the 1930s. It faces east and overlooks the Chagrin River valley.  I also suggest you bring some sunflower seed with you.  Almost anywhere along this trail, you can put the seed in your hand and whistle, and birds will land on your had to take seed.  This works very well at the overlook.

If you simply walk to and from the cache, the trip is less than an hour.  But I think you'd be cheating yourself if you didn't take some time to explore.  While placing the cache I saw grey squirrels, black squirrels, various small birds and a barred owl.  And this was just after noon.  From the parking lot, you will see a large picnic pravillion.  On the far side of this building there is a large structure that is for bats. If you visit during the summer months at sunset, you will be awed when the bats leave the shelter to feed.
