Located in DeSoto State Park. You can park at the Azalea Cascade Boardwalk. Take the boardwalk trail to the end (1000 yards). Just before the large deck, over the pool formed by the Azalea Cascade, you can exit (right) onto the red trail. It is just a short hike to the cache. Trail maps can be obtained from the Country Store or Lodge. Tree cover may be a factor. I took an average to determine cache location. Other hikers may be around so be discrete. This is the second cache; the first was vandalized so please be careful. Cache is in a tan ammo box.

DeSoto State Park is named for the notorious Spanish Conquistador Hernando DeSoto. Historians believe Hernando DeSoto and his group traveled through portions what is now North Alabama in the 1540’s. This could be the treasure DeSoto never found. To learn more about DeSoto and the State Park visit their website at www.alapark.com

This is what DeSoto's Cache Started out with.
Azalea cascade

Check out the Cascade at the end of the boardwalk. I'm told that the Wild Azaleas bloom in middle April and the Mountain Laurel blooms in middle May.

Unfortunately DeSoto’s Cache was vandalized, but don’t worry we got a new ready for adventure.

Staying in Cloudland, GA for a weekend of geocaching/site seeing in GA & AL! This was our 4th ever find in Alabama! Beautiful park on a beautiful winter day! The hike was a wonderful way to work off some our delicious lunch from the nearby restaurant! Better 1/2 spotted the hiding spot first! TNLNSL.

Thanks,
Land Surveyor & Better 1/2

Found on our last day at the park. Had to wait on the park rangers to vacate the trail but they mentioned the cache - one was a seasoned cacher himself. These weary rangers had been clearing downed trees on the trail due to the high winds earlier in the week. We can vouch for the downed trees - they were everywhere on the trails this week. Had an awesome time! TFTC!

I really enjoyed the walk back to this cache. Though it was quite chilly this morning, the woods were peaceful, the stream was babbling and the sky was clear. Today was a great day to be out caching, TFTC!!
