Geocache Description:

A walk or cycle ride along the Whitegate Way to a wooded spot by a lake

This is one of three caches placed for the 'Step into Cheshire' event with the intention of encouraging people to explore the Cheshire countryside (see web page listed at top of page). It is located at the side of the Whitegate Way, a 7 mile trail based on a former railway line.

Walk, ride or cycle along the Whitegate Way, an ideal traffic-free link from Winsford to Cuddington, near Delamere Forest Park. Shady wooded cuttings contrast with sunny open embankments, offering spectacular views over the Cheshire countryside. The Whitegate railway line carried salt for almost 100 years, from the mines along the west bank of the River Weaver up to Cuddington where it joined the Chester - Manchester line. The line finally closed in 1966 and today you can enjoy a picnic at Whitegate Station, the only station along the way.

The cache is a lock and lock sandwich box in a camo bag and initially contains a variety of goodies from Cheshire attractions including Tatton Park and the Salt Museum.

A good place to start is the car park at Whitegate Station from where you need to head north-west along the trail. Please note that recently there have been a number of break-ins to cars at the station car park. Please ensure that you do not leave valuables in your vehicle.
