How Geocaching Works
There's a sentimentality to the old John Denver song entitled "Take Me Home Country Roads" that those of us who have grown up in the Iowa countryside embrace.
A former Iowan who moved to California and is now "surrounded by endless rivers of concrete" waxed poetic about the gravel roads of her youth:
"What I thought symbolized the lack of progress now signifies a connection with the land. When I get back home and have the opportunity to drive over those old low-mainenance roads, I am able to get a feel for the land.I am not on some generic freeway using mile markers as references. Instead, I navigate on a more intimate level. I do miss the gravel roads of my youth. I miss the way they speak to my senses, how they tell stories about the land and its people, and how they never fail to evoke a sense of wonder and set my imagination in motion. They do more than just serve a practical purpose of getting people from here to there.....they add to the beauty and charm that is the Iowa countryside."
You need to drive a gravel road to find this cache.
