This cache is located at Mission Peak just outside of O'Melveny Park in Granada Hills. The views from the peak are breathtaking, but then so is the hike! It's 2.6 miles up the Sulphur Spring Fire Road from the end of Neon Way to the top. You'll climb a little over 1,300 feet.
You'll be looking for a WWII-era French medical kit (we're a Search and Rescue group, it seemed appropriate). Sulphur Spring Fire Road is the "easy" way to go: for an even more challenging hike, take the Nature Trail in O'Melveny Park to the Grassland Trail, then taken that to Sulphur Spring Fire Road, which will take you to the peak. You'll have to do a little trailblazing from there through some low scrub brush to get to the cache.
The original contents of this cache are:
-Three emergency blankets
-Two emergency whistles with compasses and thermometers
-Two emergency ponchos
-Two first aid kits
-Two packages of two light-duty carabiners
-Two LED flashlights
There's also a camera, so please take your picture at our cache. We hope you enjoy our cache!
(CEMP is an independent, volunteer, non-profit Search and Rescue and community service organization. If you are interested in becoming a member of our group, please email me, or apply in person. We have meetings the first Wednesday of every month at the LAPD Devonshire Station.)
