Close to Denver. Near Red Rocks, south of I70 at the geological
cut.
This is a nice little hike of about one mile each way. There is
a
good trail. Take the kids, or ride your mountain bike. Great
views
to the east and west. Park in the Stegosaurus lot at N 39 41.851
W
105 12.190. Trail head is at the south end of the lot. You start
at
about 6434 feet elevation and gain about 250 feet, most of it
in
the first quarter mile. Watch out for mountain bikers. You
might
enjoy visiting the dinosaur tracks along Alameda on the
southeast
side of this ridge, and also the museum in the valley east of
it.
While at this parking lot you might like to walk along the
geological cut and see the layers of the history of the earth.
The
logbook was nearly full and in bad shape after over 60 visits so
it
was replaced with logbook number 2.
Logbook #2 was full on 5/29/04 so we put in logbook #3. Left
the
old one because it is fun to read.
Container is an ammo box.
