The Deadly Sins are a series of caches to help you regain a part
of your lost soul. What’s that, you ask? You didn’t
realize you were missing a piece? Sorry to inform that you are, but
help is close at hand. Whether you admit it or not (and you can, if
you want, in the logbook or online log), I believe we have all
experienced at least one of these sins in the process of geocaching
(for some of us, perhaps more than one. Not that I know anything
about that).
Pride (or Vanity)
Sure, it’s not about the numbers but have you ever, even
once, said to yourself, “hey, if the newbie cacher with 20
finds can find this one, me and my 1000+ finds can, too.”
Higher numbers certainly are not an indicator of caching ability,
but sometimes the thought can be there. Keep in mind, though, pride
goeth before the fall.
Now, the cache itself has nothing specifically to do with pride,
but you can take pride in the fact that finding this cache gives
you one more smiley.
About the cache:
Recommended parking at N 41° 28.046 W 072° 57.046, you’ll
be following the blue blazed Quinnipiac Trail in the direction of
Roaring Brook Falls. From parking, you’ll have to walk out to
the road, turn right (east), walk towards the trailhead (keeping
the guardrail between yourself and the road) and cross to the
trailhead at N41 28.090 W72 56.928. The CT Walk Book describes this
section of the trail as having “occasional lookouts.”
Well, you can occasionally see the surrounding ridges through the
trees during the winter, but that’s about it. It’s
still a nice walk in the woods, though. An alternate way would be
to come from the north from the Roaring Brook Cache, though
I’ve never hiked that section. It may also be tempting to
park on Roaring Brook Road and bushwhack in, but most, if not all,
the property there is either private or water supply land, both
equaling No Trespassing, unless you have a water company land
hiking permit. The recommended hike isn't too bad, with a couple of
steep ups and downs, with a bit of rock scrambling at the end.
Each of the Deadly Sins has a code on the inside front cover
of the logbook and on the inside cover of the cache container. You
must take note of the code to truly become
Virtuous and retrieve the part of your soul that is
lost.
