Severn Beach saunter Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

alan g: The cache has disappeared despite a 40 mins. search. I have decided to archive it as the area has become very overgrown and no longer suitable. I will replace in a more suitable location.

Geocache Description:

An easily accessible riverside walk suitable for all

The original Riverside walk cache was in position for nearly 3 years and is due for replacement. The location was not ideal and I think the new area is more suitable. This cache is hidden near Severn Beach on the banks of the River Severn. Severn Beach is accessible from the A403 which runs from Avonmouth to the Old Severn Bridge services. It is not accessible from the Motorway leading to the New Severn Crossing as there is no exit point on this Motorway (the nearest is at Avonmouth.) I suggest parking in Riverside Park at position N51 33.577 W2 39.996 and from there it is a 0.5 mile walk along a concrete path and tarmac road (even accessible to buggies). When you reach the end of the sea wall a good grassy path can be used to take you straight to the cache area. This path follows the sea shore and there are good views across the channel. The cache is a small grey container about 5ins tall and the original contents are :- a marker pen, wall plugs,a candle, highlighter, key ring, pencil sharpener, pencil, and log book. Severn Beach was my first "seaside" holiday after the war (I`m 66) and I have very fond memories of the Blue Lagoon, the boating lake, the Rustic cinema and the amusement park, all now long gone. It was a very popular resort , particularly by Midlanders, as it was much closer than going to the South Coast. Severn Beach is now mainly a residential area surrounded by heavy industry. There is a very good video available locally, showing what Severn Beach and the local area used to be like in those days. Good hunting ! NB. The cache has often been replaced under the wrong rock. If it is not there ,widen the search in order to find it. If possible, return it to it`s correct hiding place. Thank you.
