Update May 28, 2023 - I visited the cache today, 23 years and 2 days since I originally placed this cache - Who would have guessed it would still be going strong after all these years? I hear it's like the 6th oldest cache still running? As for myself - 23 years older, a bit heavier, and WAY more out of shape.... My last visit was 3-4 years ago. My goal for today was to put back in place the ammo box container originally used for this cache. During my last visit 3-4 years ago I swapped-in a temporary box, allowing me to take the ammo box home for needed maintenance - the hinge had broken such that the box no longer sealed. This original box is back in place as of today - 5/28/23, with a fixed hinge and new coat of paint. I also added a new logbook for signing. The substitute box, a plastic box with snap-tight lid was small enough so I just placed it into the ammo box. Other observations.... Lots of trail erosion since I placed this cache 23 years ago, many herd paths too. Seems to me too that the hills have got steeper? A few Notes:
A: The ammo box was not the box used when I created this cache in 2000. I used a 5-gal bucket with a gamma-seal lid. Well - that did not work out too well - at times it was almost impossible to unscrew that lid, also, it would freeze shut and finally someone did not tighten that lid enough, allowing the bucket to fill with water (oops). Exact timing on when I substituted in the ammo can has been lost to time - perhaps looking back through the logs one might figure it out?
B: I have the original log books, stored safely in a fireproof safe. They're mostly still readable, however in rough shape from water damage.
Update 3/31/2025 - a rundown of the history of "The Spot" as I see it
Logbook
I have the original three logbooks. I took the first two from the cache for safe keeping on or about 8/26/17. they were all wet and in bad shape. For the original logbook there are some pages missing at the beginning of the log, first post is dates 4/22/01. First post logged on Geocaching.com is dated 4/13/21. Given the newness of the activity back then, the remoteness and harsh winters in the area, spring 2001 dates are probably the first finds. The youngest date I can find in the original logbook is from 7/6/11.
The second log book (in worse shape than the first), first date is 8/20/11 - I see the first entry - from me. last entry I can find is 4/1/17.
I also have the third logbook, I did not place this one - I assume a fellow geocached did as the original two were filled and in bad shape. Log dates starting 8/27/16. The last entry in this second logbook is dated 8/8/20.
The cache box
The original cache box was a 5gal bucket with a gamma-seal lid. that did not last too long, it was hard to open/close and along the way someone did not seal it, the bucket filled with water. it was removed from the cache site on 12/26/01 by a friendly geocacher whoi showed up to log the cache. The cache was returned to me. I replaced the cache on 4/27/02 with an ammo can, painted camo green.
Down the road, reading the log entries (they are emailed to me) it became clear the ammo box was in dire need of replacement or fix up. I am assuming it was shortly after the 8/8/20 entry in the third logbook I visited the cache, took the Ammo box and the three logbooks. I do not remember what the interum cachebox was.
It took a while, but I fixed up the ammo box, new hinges and fresh paint job and returned it to the cache - that was in May 2023 and so far, it's holding up.
It's a delight the cache is still going strong - I have two observations.... A: Now being 24 years older it's a heck of a lot harder for me to get to the spot. B: Incredible trail erosion from when I placed the cache.
Have fun, stay safe

Original posting:
I have placed one in the Finger Lakes region of Western New York State. It's located on public land.
Where: Datum WGS84 N 42 Degrees 40.088' W 77 Degrees 20.086'
UTM Coordinates: 18T 0308671 UTM 4726605
Stash: A .50 Cal Ammo box containing a log book, and a variety of "prizes" for those who find the stash.
All contents are enclosed in individual zip lock baggies, and the log book requests that all who take a prize also place something of interest in the stash. Additionally, in the log book this web site URL is listed as well as my e-mail address. Visitors are encouraged to leave a message in the log book and take a picture of themselves (Leave the camera in the stash)!
The stash has been mostly concealed w/ rocks, leaves, sticks, etc...
I suppose bushwacking to this stash may be possible however I caution the terrain is VERY rugged, hilly, etc... If you choose the best approach no dangerous terrain navigation is necessary
