It is very common in Holland to put art and statues in all kind
of places. In the middle of The Hague a statue was placed to
remember an old famous Dutch child song about Jantje (since
apparently he was from The Hague). This statue was made by Ivo
Kolje.
The whole child’s song goes as follows, any Dutch person will be
able to sing it to you.
In Den Haag daar woont een graaf,
en zijn zoon heet Jantje.
Als je vraagt waar woont je Pa,
dan wijst hij met zijn handje.
Met zijn vinger en zijn duim,
op zijn hoed draagt hij een pluim,
aan zijn arm een mandje,
dag, mijn lieve Jantje!
Translation:
In The Hague lives a count,
who has a son named little John.
When you ask to little John: where does your father live?
He will point out with his little hand.
With his finger and his thumb,
on his hat he has a plume
at his arm a basket,
byebye, dear little John!
The statue is right next some of the most famous buildings in
The Hague that are great places to visit: The Binnenhof,
where the government is settled, and the Mauritshuis, where
you can find some famous paintings, amongst others “the girl with
the pearl earring” from Vermeer.
At a short walking distance from the statue, I have placed a
micro cache. Hopefully it should be an easy find, the only problem
might be that there are a lot of people around here. My goal was to
make this a quick and easy find, since there are plenty of hard and
long multi caches around here all ready.
On the statue are two years. If you multiple the lowest by 3 and
subtract 773, you get the minutes latitude. If you multiply the
highest by 10 and subtract 723, you get the minutes longitude. At
this coordinate a microcache is hiding.
