Located in a great area of Kanawha State Forrest, named in honor of the travel bugs released in this cache.

The Spirit of St. Louis & Mickey v1.5 is a minor revision to the cache and a major revision to the cache listing. The cache revision consists of removing the need to solve the riddle at step 1, and the three math problems at step 3.   As one of the privious finders was able to figure out, it is possible to complete steps 1 & 2 in the comfort of your home on a cold rainy day.

STEP 1:
Go to the above coordinates where you will find a micro directing you to another location.  At this second location you will find a trail map of Kanawha State Forest. You will need this map to solve the crossword puzzle. You can also view and download the map online at http://www.kanawhastateforest.com/kanawhastate.pdf

STEP 2: Solve the crossword puzzle.
Apply the code RF.P.OTO FA.RF.BCS to obtain the coordinates for the micro.

Two sets of coordinates can be obtained using this code. One is correct, one is not. There is a micro at the 'incorrect' location with  note stating it is the wrong one. The two locations are 1.15 miles apart.

STEP3: Find the next micro.

STEP 4: The micro contains the bearing and distance from the micro to the final cache. Follow those directions and start looking.

Found it! This was not only my last cache to find in KSF, but also finished up my first 25 miles in the WV DNR hiking program. So I can now send off for my hiking staff. Cool! I'd never been on that particular trail before. When I was in college I used to mountain bike here a lot and today as I hiked to ground zero from the "Road Not Taken" cache I saw lots of bike tracks and wished for my old bike to speed things along a little, but then I wouldn't have finished up my hiking miles for the first milestone. So it was worth it. I thought the climb to the final cache location wasn't bad at all. Piece of cake.

I signed the log and then took a photo with the camera. I pushed the flash button on it first, took a photo (flash didn't go off) then set it down on a rock to sign the log. Then all of a sudden the camera started hissing and then it started cracking/snapping loudly. It scared the life out of me at first. It was almost as loud as a firecracker! It kept that up for a long time and I finally just stuck it back in the cache and re-hid the container. Hopefully it doesn't explode!

Thanks for the hide and the fun hunt.

Solved this puzzle months ago and just hadn't scheduled a day to attack the caches in KSF but today was the day. When we solved the puzzle we had a theory on which coords to use and it was right on although we no longer remember what the decision point was. As stated before, the gnats were absolutely awful today. The Crew took 3 in the eye before we had grabbed the 4 caches. After the steep climb through mostly creek bed, luckily the Crew walked right to Stage 3 in her advance toward the coords through the brush. It is well hidden but if you come in from the right direction, you can spot it. Contents were wet so the inked note wasn't noticed until we had done the math and didn't know what to do with the numbers. Then we noticed the very faint addendum. We rewrote them for the next adventurer and dried the clue sheet as best we could. Then continued onward and upward. Wish there was a better way to access the cache but we didn't find it and it was a real challenge today with all the mud especially the return trip, but it is a 4 star terrain so all should be well warned. The briars were also in fine form today and the Pilot came out bloodied from the climb out while having to assist the Crew. Felt really good to get this one done. Don't think we will ever drop back by just for a visit. Cache container had water in it. We dried everything we could and removed ruined paper objects. Then to add insult to injury (really) we got part way back down and when we spotted a mushroom photo op realized we had forgotten to take our traditional cache-find photo so back up and down we went. But all was well in the end, the extra hike (UP) earned us a total of 6 miles in the forest today which was exactly what we needed to finish up 25 miles in our first round of "Hiking West Virginia." So close and yet so far! Thought we had the right coordinates (and maybe we did) but hiked to the FAA towers to find that there was no trail to get us the remaining mile to the coordinates. Bugs were rather fierce and rather than gut through the underbrush we decided to go home and check the map to see if there was another trail that would take us closer. We will conquer this one at some point! Did find some wild blackberry bushes on the trail. Was with JXW.

Pirate Peter, The T, Hurricane Sarah, JXW and I got the map, finished the crossword and found the micro at the "wrong" coordinates - but did get to see a turtle in the woods. We'll have to try again later for the other coordinates for Step 3.

Found stage one; started looking for stage two, but ran out of time. Looking forward to completing this cache when I have more time.
