INCORPORATED: 1838
COUNTY SEAT: Dover-Foxcroft
POPULATION: 17,235
TOWNS: Abbott, Atkinson, Beaver Cove, Bowerbank, Brownville, Dover-Foxcroft, Greenville, Guilford, Medford, Milo, Monson, Parkman, Sangerville, Sebec, Shirley, Wellington and Willimantic.
PLANTATIONS: Kingsbury and Lake View.
1931 - Governor Percival Baxter begins buying land in Northern Maine for the purpose of establishing a game reserve. Over the course of 30 years, Baxter would purchase over 90,000 acres. This land was generously donated toward the establishment of Baxter State Park.
The highest Mountain is Mount Katahdin, 5,268-foot elevation.
Moosehead Lake in Maine is the largest lake east of the Mississippi contained within one state.
