Geocache Description:

This cache is located at the Potosi District Ranger Office of the Mark Twain National Forest. It is part of a series of caches being created at all of the offices. The office is open 8-4:30 Mon-Fri. Please feel free to stop in and say hello. You can also pick up information about the National Forest.

This cache contains Smokey Bear goodies and wildlife information. It is a take only, you do not need to leave anything. It is large enough for travel bugs and has it's own pencil.

Located near the cache is a vernal pool. A vernal pool is a shallow pool of water, no more than 15" deep, that is intended to provide habitat for wildlife, especially amphibians. These pools do not contain fish, which makes them attractive to breeding salamanders such as spotted salamanders, and frogs such as wood frogs. These amphibians cannot successfully breed in pools containing fish.
This vernal pool was built by the Forest Service in July 2009. It is particularly attractive in the spring, when it is echoing with the calls from spring peepers, and in the late summer, when it is surrounded by the crimson colors of blooming cardinal flowers.

There is a Mark Twain National Forest turkey pin for the FTF.

Congratulations to Holy Grail Seekers for being FTF!
