Greensburg, PA is located in Westmoreland County 30 miles east of Pittsburgh, PA. History records the first building in Greensburg was an Inn built along a wagon road that stretched from Philadelphia to Fort Pitt. A small settlement of Newtown grew around the Inn. Today that spot is the intersection of Pittsburgh and Main Streets. Hannastown, the original county seat in Westmoreland County, was destroyed by a fire in 1782 in a raid by Seneca Indians and Canadian Rangers. The county seat was moved to Newtown in 1785 where a log courthouse was built. In 1799 it was renamed Greensburg after Revolutionary War General Nathanael Green. Modern day Greensburg has a population of nearly 16,000 residents and approximately 57,000 reside in the Greater Greensburg Area. Greensburg is home to Seton Hill University.
