You will find this Cache in the beautiful scenery of Hogsback. The small town Hogsback lies 1300 m over sea level, in the Amathole Mountains with an air of magic and mystery.

Keeping the spirit of Tolkien alive

Urst100 - Spirit Of Tolkien

Many people believe that J.R.R.Tolkien renowned author of “Lord of the Rings” and “The Hobbit” visited Hogsback and inspired by its forests and mountains, reflected them in his stories.

The beauty of the area seems infused with the other-worldy aura of Tolkien’s “Middle Earth” and the forests envelop you in a world of fantasy.

Old, gnarled trees seem to whisper their wisdom on the breeze and the undergrowth of ferns conceals an imaginary world of “little folk” – goblins, elves, gnomes, dwarves, fairies, and of course hobbits.

The area abounds with Tolkienesque names. One finds properties and farms named Arminel, Wilderland, Tanglewood and River Running.

Instruction:

This was my third visit to the area and I thought I would pop in the check up on the cache. All was in order. The last finder (non geocacher) Kevin Cole the principal scientist at East London Museum found it on the 31 December 2008 while looking for snails to study. He seems very intrigued by the geocache.

Hard climb down. GPS was jumping all around the place - we could not find the other cache in this location. We used your directions.
Took tissues desperatley needed and inserted little soft toy dog.

We walked from the Madonna and Child parking space and obviously needed the clue. I got wet feet crossing to the other side and I thought that this would be the last place on earth I would be muggled while signing the log - but no. A group of hikers appeared but we think they didn't see me until I reappeared to cross back across the stream. We waited in this beautiful spot until they left. Left Tape TB.
