How Geocaching Works

Geocache Description:

CARMH is the Cache & Relax event for Medicine Hat.

There are three stages to the CARMH event:

1) the Hides
2) the Hunt
3) the Gathering.

THE HIDES: Hide one or more caches between now and Monday, Aug 16^th , the deadline is to ensure that Cache Effect has sufficient time to review and publish all the hides for the event. Hiders are encouraged to place their caches earlier than that to work out any issues that may arise.

NOTE: Every cache listing submitted for CARMH should include the following:
1) CARMH at the end of the name (e.g. End of the Road CARMH) to facilitate searches by keyword. No dashes or any punctuation.
2) A note to the reviewer (cache effect) stating that it is placed for the CARMH event.
Use the following to (copy and paste) "This cache is for the CARMH Event. Please publish with the other caches for the event." Cache Effect will check the coordinates and confirm that the location is suitable for a cache (no proximity or other issues). He will hold the location (don't change the coordinates at this point) for the cache.
3) Use the following (copy and paste) description on your cache page:
“This cache has been placed for the CARMH event, held Aug 21, 2010. This cache was released to the public on Aug 19^th . The caches should not be located prior to 6:00pm, Aug 20^th. The caches for the event are released early so that the caching community has an opportunity to plan their routes prior to the event start.
4) Make sure in your description you state which category your cache is entered in. Remember all caches are entered automatically in the overall best cache so you can pick another one. You are allowed one more categories. If you do not state which category then it will only be entered into the overall best cache.
5) We are going to put one or two coupons in each cache. These coupons are for door prizes and coffee. In order for me to get you the coupons to put in your caches. I’ll need you to contact me so I can get you the coupons for each cache you have hidden. This will require you contacting me. King.tut@telus.net You must have these coupons to put into your caches.

CARMH CACHE RULES:
No nanos, no micros except one per account for the custom built category.
All hides must be hidden within or close to city limits, including Redcliff. Approximately 5 to 8km
Hide caches you would enjoy finding yourself.
All hides must be made to remain permanent following the event for everyone to find at their leisure.

CACHE CATEGORIES

Best overall cache -- All caches will automatically be entered into this category. This will be the best cache as seen by the voting cachers.
Best custom built cache container -- This is the only category were you can enter a micro. Please try to make the micro at least film container size. Pipe, wood, glue something to a L'n'L, jar, or ammo can. Simply painting these is not considered custom cammo
Best cache hidden in plain view -- yet still hidden from muggles
Bright color cache-- This cache must have bright colors, with at least two colors. The outside of your cache must have at least some bright color on it.

THE HUNT

The actual finding part of the event starts at 6:00pm Aug 20^th. There are no prizes for most FTF, most finds, most DNFs, or distance traveled.
You are welcome to find as many or as few of the CARMH caches as you like. There will be coupons placed in random caches. When you find your first coupon keep it. Any more you find you must leave for the next person. You are only allowed one coupon, or one each if you have a partner. You are also welcome to find any other caches in Medicine Hat during the event. Finding one CARMH cache will get your name in for a prize draw.
I will be taking the listings of caches and create a spreadsheet for you to print and take along on your hunt. This listing will be used for voting on the caches, and we’ll put a link to it here as soon as it is available.

THE GATHERING:The Gathering is on Aug 21st and starts at 6:00pm. The above coordinates are for the gathering. Trukker’s Restaurant in the partitioned room.
We will be there by 6:00pm on Aug 21st for voting, visiting & story telling. You can also order a meal if you wish.
At 8:00pm we will be awarding prizes for the CARMH event. You must be at the event to collect your prize, otherwise it goes to the next person.
Anyone finding CARMH caches will receive points to vote with. The more caches you find, the more points you get to vote with.

As with all events, please post a 'Will Attend' note with a mention of the number of people accompanying you.
