The cache is located in the mountains at the top of Normandien pass. Although a 4 x 4 is not required to reach the cache, a vehicle with better road clearance than the avarage car is recommended as the road can be quite rough, particularly after heavy rains.
To get to the cache, follow Scott street out of Newcastle. Continue for approximately 40km, where you will find the Normandien police station. From there, follow the signs to the Horse Shoe/Normandien pass. The cache is located a few kilometers beyond the apex of the pass. While driving up the pass you will encounter several concreted sections of road. It is approximately 5km's from the end of the first concreted section to the cache location.
As you near the cache, you will encounter a small dirt road turning off to the left; this is the ideal parking place for your caching expedition. On the edge of the plateau you will find a small rock outcropping with a granite plaque embedded in it; the cache is located somewhere below that.
To make the most of your outing, it is recommended that:
- you stop regularly to take in the views; they are truly spectacular
- you pack a picnic basket and spend some time up there enjoying the peace and solitude
