One for the kayakers among us. You will need some kind of boat to find this cache. This is one of my favourite kayak paddles and is a lovely afternoon out in good conditions. The cache is hidden in a cove at the Northern tip of an Island, near Cable Bay.

This is a beautiful piece of coastline with dramatic cliffs, lots of birdlife, good fishing, deserted pebble beaches, and a few caves and archways you can paddle through. I've encountered dolphins out there and its a great area for diving too!

Park at the following co-ordinates:

S 41 09.476
E 173 25.076

There are two options for getting to cache site from the parking co-ordinates.

*Option 1: The quickest route is to launch on the seaward side of the landbridge and hug the coast to the cache site. It takes me about 30-40 minutes to paddle there (your mileage may vary).

*Option 2: If you have about 3 hours to spare, and you leave on or soon after high tide you can launch on the esturary side of the land bridge and paddle around the whole island (anti-clockwise). The cache site is about three quarters of the way around. This is the highly recomended option.

Of course please check weather and maps before leaving, tell someone where your going, and take all normal precautions.

Once you are on the right beach the cache is a hop, skip and a jump away. Please be careful of plant life; if you're climbing around on tussock you've gone to far. Your feet shouldn't need to leave rock. Cache is a camo 400ml sistema container with a log book and a few swapable trinkets. I hope the co-ordinates will be accurate enough but use the hints if you get stuck!

There is a local kayak hire/guide business in the area. Safe paddling!

Cache Logs

Didn't take GPS on this trip, but happened to choose this beach when wanting to stop for lunch, so thought I would check if this cache was still active. Found the cache in pieces strewn around the rocks, with one plastic bag looking very chewed. Maybe someone left some food in it? The logbook was dry, so re-assembled and re-hid where I thought it might have been before.

Still an awesome place to come :)
