This cache was set up for cyclists participating in the Rosarito to
Ensenada Fun Bike Ride, but it can be enjoyed by those driving
through as well. Cache is off the "Libre" road (the non-toll road
between Ensenada, Baja California, and Tijuana, Baja California.)
Twice a year, in April and September, Paseo Ciclista
Rosarito Ensenada SA de CV (formely Bicycling West) sponsors a
50-mile fun bike ride from Rosarito BC to Ensenada BC. On average
8000 cyclists (mostly from the U.S.) ride along the scenic Baja
coastline and then turn inland into the challenging rolling hills
along a picturesque countryside. The bike event is well supported
and the road is closed to vehicle traffic except for emergency
personnel. The next two rides are September 25, 2010, and May
14, 2010. The rides are on Saturdays and start at 10a.
From the start line in front of the Rosarito Hotel, the cache is
approximately 30 miles south, off the Libre road. Unless you are
familiar with Tijuana, Rosarito is the best place to enter and exit
the Libre road. That means you'll encounter one toll booth; The
toll will be about $2-4.
The container is a small 4" diameter camo taped tin covered by
rocks next to a 3-foot boulder.
The terrain rating is 4 stars as I intend the cache to be
approached on bicycle. Via a car, terrain rating will be a star and
a half.
Have fun, and ride safe.
