feedle: The original purpose for this geocache is done. It was a fairly hidden and out of the way obscure piece of history, and apparently it isn't anymore. Plus, the description is no longer accurate.

It is my hope that an enterprising local cacher can place a "real" cache at this location and keep it going, but for now, so long to this one and TFTC.

Geocache Description:

California is rich in natural resources. This virtual cache's coordinates will take you to one such resource-rich place in California's Heartland, and in the process, expose you to California State Historical Landmark # 498.

Located just a little south of the small California town of McKittrick is a site where this very valuable resource literally comes gushing out of the ground. At this site is a landmark. Read the text of the landmark and breifly check out the nearby feature it describes.. but watch your step! You could be in for a sticky situation if you get too close! (The feature is visible from the roadway easement.. please do not trespass on private property.. for your own safety!)

To claim credit for the cache, you must answer this question to me in private E-mail. The landmark has been there for the better part of 50 years now, and has seen better days. There is a word that has been shot out of the concrete plaque. That is your "password" to claim credit for the site. Again, please send it in E-Mail, do not post it here. Additionally, it would be nice for you to post a picture of you at the site (obscuring, of course, the plaque).. but this is not required.
