This cache is the third in a series highlighting little used, unusual, unknown, abandoned and some times unusable airfields. You can drive within 30’, but the last little bit is through downed branches and other forest floor debris.
This is a fine example of a mountain airstrip. The mountains, trees, grass, and slope of this location will test the skills of most pilots. Only skilled pilots and those experiencing an emergency may be interested in using this airstrip. Snow may prevent access during the winter.
McKenzie Airstrip is a potentially active airstrip; do not park on the grass runway! Please obey all signs.
Comment: 5/4/2007 While several cachers seem to have difficulty with this cache, I will only say; it is an ammo can, and yes your GPS will give you fits under the tree cover. This has turned out to be one of those caches you love to hate and that you can make more difficult than it actually is. I hate it when I do that. Thanks goes out to those who have done a great job of rehiding the cache!!! ;-)
