A circuit of the Glen Artney Donalds and tops.
Beinn nan Eun is visible in the distance from the Braco to Comrie road, known locally as the Langside Road. A circuit of these tops makes a good walking day as a full circuit. It's possible to split the walk up into a number of smaller walks if you have less time.
Beinn nan Eun 631m ( 2070ft) is the first 'Donald ' you climb if you attempt this circuit in a clockwise direction.
Donalds are found in the Scottish Lowlands (ie South of the Highland boundary fault) and are at least 2000 feet high. Donald Tops are all elevations with a drop of at least 100 feet (30m aprox.) on all sides and elevations of sufficient topographical merit with a drop of between 50 and 100 feet. Certain of these are designated 'Hills' according to a complex formula based on both distance and drop collated by Percy Donald. he used af ormula involving fractional units of height and distance, with a separate Donald defined by 17 or more of these units.
The Glen Artney Donalds were absent from Donald's inital list. Revisionists have later added them.
This walk starts from the car park at Glenartney Church. Walk through the gate on the opposite side of the road up past the abandoned Auchnashelloch Cottage. Shortly up the hill there's a large erratic boulder. From here cross the Allt Mor heading directly for the top of Beinn nan Eun. There are impressive steep sides to the East. The summit is not clearly defined but there are good views of the Ochils and Campsies. The cache is a short distance from the summit near the top of the steep slope. See if you can spot the mushroom nearby.
Please be aware of the conditions on the hills and your fitness level.
They may not be Munros, but these you are likely to encounter rough ground here and there are few paths.
Allow adequate time to complete your chosen route, ensuring you have appropriate clothing, food, drinks and maps with you. Please make sure someone is aware of your route and the approximate time you are due back.
**** congratulations to the Swedish Cachers on their FTF*****
