The cache involves a reasonably significant hike (2hr return
trip) with over 350m of height gain, however you will be well
rewarded with the best all-round view of the Killarney area.
The route is on tracks all the way, comprising wide gravel
pathway, boardwalk and rough stone path. Although the overall
height gain is relatively modest, this is a mountain walk and
walking boots are essential, as well as rain gear etc..
Children reach the summit of the mountain regularly, but the
hike should not be taken lightly and you should carefully assess
your own child's capability if you are considering bringing them
along.
It is not possible to approach the cache from the
northern side of the mountain - please stick to the track on the
southern side!
The most convenient parking spot is at the top Torc car park,
although parking at bottom Torc car park on the N71 is also a
possibility if you don't mind the extra height gain, and this
option links nicely with the 172 steps cache.
Initially follow the Kerry Way track in a south-westerly
direction before branching off at the track junction south of Torc
(see additional waypoint).
To prevent unnecessary erosion please keep to the track at
all times and follow the country code - thanks!
