Touchstone: Had a pretty good run on this one, considering it's urban setting. Thanks for all the great log entries.

Geocache Description:

This cache is located at the Northern extent of the Monterey Bay Coastal Bike Path that the Central Coast Geocachers of California have adopted for clean up purposes. An important set of numbers to remember: 0412

This is a Sign-Only cache at the request of the Parks and Recreation Department of the City of Monterey.  No trade items will be allowed, and any items that don't belong in the cache will be removed.   The cache contains a logbook, pen, and trackable CITO containers.  Feel free to take one of the CITO containers and pass it along.

As the map above shows, the Monterey Bay Coastal Bike Path stretches from Lovers Point in Pacific Grove to just North of Marina on the Northern end.  It is possible to bike on roads through Pebble Beach (and the famous 17 Mile Drive) on the Southern end, and from Marina to Castroville along short sections of path and road to stretch out the trail to nearly 30 miles.  The section of trail that the CCGC has adopted through the Park and Recreation Department of the City of Monterey is approximately 1.5 miles in length.  This cache represents the Northern extent of our area of responsibility and runs South to the Window on the Bay Park at approximately N36 36.045 W121 53.010.  Koolrats excellent Del Monte Express Cache (GCRN3K) is just beyond the Southern extent of our area of responsibility.

ODS and OD-CITO

Some of you may have heard (or maybe not) of Snoogans One Degree of Seperation Project , well the Central Coast Geocachers of California, not being particularly energetic, organized, or sufficiently large in numbers, offers up the One Degree of CITO (Note: not being very organized, I am for the time being using my personal sig item tracking page complements of Marky and Joani ).  Like Snoogans ODS Project, the object here is to have the familiar little film canisters travel from cache to cache and to hopefully help clean up the world one trash bag at a time and connect Geocachers around the world in one massive clean up project..  Feel free to take one of the CITO containers compliments of the CCGC and move it along.  If you have time, logging it on the OD-CITO page would also be appreciated.

Logging Request (not a requirement)

Along with taking one of the CITO containers, if you have the time and inclination, feel free to help the poorly paid and understaffed members of the CCGC in their volunteer effort.  As mentioned earlier, the CCGC is responsible for trash pick up between Roberts Lake (where the cache is), South to Window on the Bay Park.  There are a handful of caches along the route and it is a very pleasant walk or bike ride.  The CCGC section of the MBCBP is not quite as busy as some of the Southerly sections (such as Cannery Row and Aquarium sections), but you still have to be alert to passing cyclists.

If you do spend a little time picking up trash along the trail, please post the amount of time you spent in this activity (in 15 minute intervals).  The Volunteer Office for the City keeps track of volunteer time for funding purposes.  Thanks in advance for any help!

Accessing the Cache

The cache is in a locked container at ground level (it will be fairly obvious when you see it).  The combination of the lock is in the Hint.  So how did I come up with that number?  Well, that's my Birthday and I thought there was some chance of me remembering that number.  Feel free to post Birthday wishes if you like :)
