Groundspeak is celebrating geocaching all over the world! So they are sending Signal the Frog all over the globe this year. Signal's first stop will be Germany! But you don't have to go all the way to Germany to earn your Dönerstag Souvenir.
On Thursday, April 13, players will gather to celebrate the 11th annual Dönerstag. You can earn the first-ever Dönerstag souvenir by attending a geocaching event on that day.
Dönerstag began in 2007 when German cachers met at kebab shops around the country all at the same time. Last year, over 6000 cachers attended 233 Dönerstag events all over Europe!
These special events are held each year on a Thursday. In German, this makes the name “Dönerstag” a pun: The German word for Thursday is “Donnerstag.” Kebab translates to “Döner.”
This year, West Salem will be hosting its own Dönerstag event in Veteran's Memorial Park. Come join the fun while socializing with other cachers. Since this is a German themed event, Bratwurst, Kraut, buns, & condiments will be provided by the hosts. We do ask that you plan to bring your own plates, utensils and beverages, as well as your own meat if you do not want a Brat, and if possible a dish to pass. When signing the attend log, please let us know if you will be planning on eating or not, how many will be in your group/party, and what you plan to bring to the pot luck in order to assist us with planning.
