Direct From Cousin Sally: "Cowles Park in East Granby, CT. is a
hiking trail park in what once was part of the 1802 homestead of
the Rev. Whitfield Cowles. The entrance lies off Route 187 just
north of Spoonville Road. Rev. Cowles and his son William were
early silverplaters in partnership with William and Asa Rogers
(later Rogers Brothers Silver)...hence the area of Spoonville. The
1802 home on Spoonville rd. is now occupied by the 7th generation
of the Cowles'. The family was pleased when in the 1970's the town
wanted to purchase the land to preserve as a recreational area and
that they eventually called it Cowles Park"
