Men of the Sea (Bristol) Multi-cache

This cache has been archived.

jri: Sadly, after over twelve years, it's time to archive this cache. A lot of things have changed in that time. I've now got kids, and no longer have as much opportunity to do cache maintenance as I used to. And a school building has been built overlooking the final cache site, complete with CCTV and inquisitive muggle kids who are likely to take interest in strange folk furtling in the bushes. Rather than look for a new hiding place nearby, I've decided to free up the space for something new.

Thanks to everyone who has searched for the cache over the years. Although it gained some early notoriety, it's been fun looking after it, and gratifying to see the kind comments and fav points, and over 500 finds.

Happy caching everyone!

Geocache Description:

At the posted location in the centre of Bristol you will find clues to give you the co-ordinates for the final cache, which is a short walk away.

The co-ordinates are for the statue of Neptune in Bristol city centre. Between there and the edge of the dock you will find the answers to the following questions:

Which year did Neptune move to Victoria Street? Answer = 18ba
What year was "The Sailors' Friend" born? Answer = c8de
Which year did he go to parliament? Answer = 18g8
Sebastian set sail with his dad in which year? Answer = 1h9j
Which year did the trail named in honour of the father open? Answer = 19f2. Add together the digits of the day it opened to give k.

a b c d e f g h j k

Cache is located at: N51 ab.de(k+2) W002 fg.(h+1)(c-1)(j+1)

Checksum: a+b+c+d+e+f+g+h+j+k = 42

Once you've worked out the final destination, the cache should be in a public place, a leisurely 15 mins walk away. It is a camoflaged plastic fruit jar. Aside from a logbook and pen, it originally contained:

  • Magnetic clip
  • Mini toolkit keyring
  • Extending keyring
  • Nail varnish and nail tattoos
  • Stickers
  • Squishy egg
  • Geonut geocoin
  • Show Me the Way to Go Home travel bug

Happy hunting!
