Moe's Tavern Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

Southerntrekker: Hi There

As the owner has not responded to either my log or my colleague's previous log requesting that they check this cache I am archiving it.

Please note that once the cache has been archived, this can not be undone. This is explained in the Help Center - http://support.groundspeak.com//index.php?pg=kb.page&id=70

You will need to create a new listing, put it back in for review and as long as it meets today's guidelines and no other caches have been published in the area causing a proximity problem, then it will be published.

Regards

Geocache Description:

Easy to find but very hard to get at! This cache was placed to "replace" one from BugznElmr that was close by - Sector 7G. I love this area and especially this location but BE CAREFUL!! The rating system rates this as 4/4.25 but, with attention to the notes below, I would rate at 1/5.

First and foremost - the disclaimer! I take no responsibility for anyone getting hurt while attempting this cache. The approach is extremely precarious and injury a very real possibility if care is not taken. You do this at your own risk. The cache is located on a small island offshore that is ONLY accessible at low water. I recommend that it is ONLY attempted on a falling tide and not at all after low water. Essentially, that gives you 2 x 2hr windows in each 24hrs. You WILL get cut off, even on the lowest neap tides if you ignore this. The approach to the island looks precarious but if you walk to the very end of the beach and a bit beyond, you will see a gully that runs right up to the entrance of the sea cave; use that as the rocks are covered in seaweed and very slippery. The cache is accessed through the sea cave, a feature that almost saw this cache named "Moe's Cavern" but I went with the authentic Simpsons reference, as did Sector 7G. Once in the cave, make your way to the very end, where there is a 2m (6 to 8') sheer step that must be negotiated both up and down. When descending, do it the same way that you came up, with your face to the slope! This, and the possibility of being cut off for extended periods, is why I have rated this cache as a 5 terrain. I have been here many times with my 10yr old son but my wife won't come near... :-D So please, no young kids and certainly no pets. Once on the top, the cache is easy to find but STAY AWAY from the edges of the island as they are sheer, loose and therefore very dangerous. The cache is a small clip-lock tub with the usual notebook and pencil and a few goodies.
