Geocache Description:

A cache in memory of our dear departed friend Don McInnis, located along the shores of his favorite place, Priest Lake.

A view out over Priest Lake toward Chimney Rock from near the cache site

Don McInnis, known in geocaching circles by his alias "Donad_D," passed away March 22, 2003 after suffering a brain aneurysm on the 15th of March. He had found his last two caches just the day before and had visited the Idaho Geocachers and Geocaching.com web sites the morning before falling ill, so we know that geocaching was on his mind when he left us.

This cache was placed on a beautiful summer day in Don's memory. It is located along the Lakeshore Trail, a trail that Don was fond of hiking and biking during his frequent visits to nearby Elkins Resort. The best access to the cache is from the southern trailhead located at N 48° 38.894', W 116° 52.591'. From there, it is an easy, level quarter-mile stroll to the cache spot. Spectacular views of the lake and the Selkirk Crest are available from the area and Don's 100th cache find, Lookout Mountain, can be seen toward the northeast. We are certain that Don enjoyed this location.

Don was a big man, so in his honor the cache container is a large one - an oversized (tall) .50-caliber ammo can. He also enjoyed practical jokes and humor, so the starting contents of the cache include a variety of novelty items, as well as some Priest Lake souvenirs.
