Come and explore the beautiful Black Hills. This years Geobash
promises to be a fun time for everybody of all ages. The location
for this years Geobash is in the northern hills area and will be a
3 day event, so call early to get your camping reservations.
There are a lot of caches to be found in the northern Black
Hills. Spearfish currently has 35 caches in the immediate area.
There are 17 caches to be found in the scenic Spearfish Canyon.
Nearby is the town of Deadwood with 31 caches, Sturgis with 39
caches and Belle Fourche with 23 caches. That is 145 caches
within a half hour drive from the campground. Also there are plenty
of other caches to be found that I haven't mentioned deep within
the northern Black Hills territory and west of Spearfish towards
Wyoming. I will also be placing some new caches just prior to the
event. There are some awesome geocaches in this part of the country
with great hiking trails, scenic waterfalls and canyons. Also
during these dates a family can visit the Central States Fair in
nearby Rapid City.
Chris Camp: You must pay your own camping fees &
make your own camping reservations by calling 1-800-350-2239 or
locally 605-642-2239. Make sure you tell them you are with the
Geo Bash III for the Black Hills Area Geocaching event. Let them
know if you need a tent site, RV site, popup camper site or a
sleeping cabin. The owners are really nice people and are eager to
welcome our group. The campground owner has sectioned off half of
the campground for our event including the picnic shelter. You can
go to their website at Chris Camp to view
the map of the campground, the camping fees and the amenities. We
have sites 81-96, 51-57. 98-101 and cabins 1-7. The campground has
Wi-Fi, heated pool, showers, playground, laundromat, petting zoo,
playground, store and gameroom. The campground is located 2 miles
east of Spearfish on Christenson Drive.
If you care not to camp you may seek lodging in nearby Spearfish.
If you live locally and care not to stay overnight, you can just
attend the evening gatherings.
Note: There will be prizes for
the chili cookoff contest for Friday evening. There will be open
judging by the attendees. So be prepared to bring your best pot of
chili. There are outlets for crockpots in the picnic shelter. You
may make your chili at home or on site. For those who do not want
to participate in the cookoff contest but want to sample and judge,
you may bring crackers, cheese, cornbread, drinks or a
desert.
For the BBQ on Saturday evening I will be supplying the hotdogs,
hamburgers, condiments and buns. All I ask for is that cachers
bring something to go along with the BBQ like drinks, chips, sides
or a desert.
Geocoins: For this years event I have designed a special
edition Black Hills geocoin. The cost will be $10 per coin.
Logging a Will Attend: When logging a "Will Attend" please
state how many in your party so I know how much meat to bring to
grill for Saturday evening. Also please state what you are bringing
to the evening meals for both evenings and if you are participating
in the chili cookoff contest on Friday evening. If you would like
to reserve your Black Hills geocoin, please state how many you
would like when signing up for the event. Hope to see you all
there!
