Geocache Description:

THIS IS A CHALLENGING MULTI-WAYPOINT CACHE WHICH IS INTENDED TO BE DONE USING ONLY YOUR GPSr, A PENCIL AND A PAPER. YOU SHOULD BECOME FAMILIAR WITH PRECISION WAYPOINT PROJECTION USING ONLY YOUR GPSr BEFORE STARTING.

Those who find the cache without resorting to other electronic devices will gain the greatest satisfaction, and will receive.... two thumbs up! In this multi-waypoint cache, the length of each leg is exactly one-half the length of the previous leg. As well, the bearing of each leg is increased by a constant amount relative to the previous leg. For example, for a constant bearing increase of 10 degrees, if the first leg is 400 meters at a bearing of 50 degrees (true), then the second leg is 200 meters long and has a bearing of 60 degrees (true) and the third leg is 100 meters long and has a bearing of 70 degrees (true), etc.

At the posted coordinates for the first waypoint (N45 28.012 W075 35.155) there is a black label with white lettering tacked to a poplar tree about head high. The lettering is in the format xxxxM yyT zzD where xxxx represents the distance in meters to the second waypoint; yy represents the true bearing in degrees to the second waypoint; and zz represents the constant bearing change in degrees. The cache will be found at the end of this progression when the leg length reaches about one meter.

For a final twist, go to a nearby object, from which there is a pretty view (easily recognisable if you're a bintair fan), and FROM THERE make a projection of 76m at 147T to get you right on top of the cache.

The cache container is a preform container (Lisa tube, black) about 6 inches long. It is well-hidden, so your projections must be precise. Allow at least 2 hours to find the cache starting from the first waypoint.

PLEASE be sure to RE-HIDE the cache EXACTLY as you found it.

You wouldn't want to make it easier for the next seekers, would you?

CAUTION: Be sure to use common sense when seeking this cache. You should not go into any dangerous looking areas. PLEASE do not include spoilers in your logs. Logs with spoilers will be deleted immediately.

If you believe there is any problem with the cache setup, please advise me privately by e-mail so that I may fix them if necessary.

There is a bench about 50 meters west of the first waypoint where you could relax to do the required projections.

See my ‘Projecting Waypoints With Greater Precision' description posted 7 Dec 2002 in the Groundspeak Forums under GPS Units and Software.
