Geocache Description:

alongside the INDUS river near the ALCHI GOMPA (tibetian monastary) in the Ladakh region of the state of Jammu and Kashmir

This cache is near the Alchi Gompa (monastary)... for an enjoyable 2-3 hour hike start at the back gate of the gompa overlooking the Indus river and hike downstream along the high bluffs... it will take you past many interesting sights.... start out in a Yak pasture and progress along to fields of barley (be kind and only walk on the edges of the fields) then past the homes of the barley farmers and on your rightside the ruins of the old palace and many stupas and chortens.... then take the path up into the hillside... beauitful views of the river and community across the Indus.... you pass an area where the old people would mine salt and some remains are still there (the salt trade was very important on the silk road)... keep on going to the cache point... it is the highest spot around overlooking the bridge and the road and the old chortens.... you will need the hint to find the cache it is at aprox. 10,690 feet above sea level!
