alongside the INDUS river near the ALCHI GOMPA (tibetian monastary)
in the Ladakh region of the state of Jammu and Kashmir
This cache is near the Alchi Gompa (monastary)... for an enjoyable
2-3 hour hike start at the back gate of the gompa overlooking the
Indus river and hike downstream along the high bluffs... it will
take you past many interesting sights.... start out in a Yak
pasture and progress along to fields of barley (be kind and only
walk on the edges of the fields) then past the homes of the barley
farmers and on your rightside the ruins of the old palace and many
stupas and chortens.... then take the path up into the hillside...
beauitful views of the river and community across the Indus.... you
pass an area where the old people would mine salt and some remains
are still there (the salt trade was very important on the silk
road)... keep on going to the cache point... it is the highest spot
around overlooking the bridge and the road and the old chortens....
you will need the hint to find the cache it is at aprox. 10,690
feet above sea level!
Small note on cache maintenance: There is a
local "cache guardian". Name and contact information on file with
