Geocache Description:

Rockpile Cabin, Weld, Maine. Generally easy, but some climbing may be necessary. Private property, but open to the public. You'll be amazed!

This is my first GeoCache. I just hid it tonight. It's small and has a rather bland, but potentially creative initial trinkets. It's the location that's the ticket. The Rockpile Cabin in Weld, Maine is a rather precious gem. The owners of this well landscaped property have graciously, inconspicuously and vulnerably invited all to visit and enjoy. The location is a must-see. I don't want to spoil it for you and give you all the details. Visit the property, go to the cabin and make yourself at home. Bring a picnic. Be romantic in front of a quaint fire if you wish. There's a windmill and pond (not for swimming...just for looking). Sign the guestbook. Enter the property with your car onto a dirt road from the Weld Road in Weld, Maine. You'll see a pond and windmill. Turn from the main road at N44° 41.509' and W70° 24.679'. Work your way up to the cabin. Find the geocache from there. My geocache has a homemade lego version of a Star Wars destroyer, a pin, a set of stethescope ear thingys, a toy cow, 2 dimes and a nickle, a SD Memory case, a rock, a snowman, a fob, a mint thingy, a 1972 penny (mint condition), a key, a 10F piece from France, three extra large paper clips, 4 zippy ties and a blue marble.

Before placing the geocaches on the property, I checked with the owners (an elderly couple). They were excited! The husband said, "I can't wait to see what happens!" They were not aware of what a geocache is and after I explained it to them, they were interested and were amazed that these things are all over the world.

8-2-2010 - WHILE YOU VISIT: You may want to make extra time for your visit. I asked the owners if there was anything that the Boy Scouts could do for their property because there are some things in disrepair like the fence or picnic table wood (among other things). We geocachers can do the same. They welcome the idea to get help to maintain their life's work. If you are interested in laboring, let us know. There's another labor...on the multiple rows of rocks, there's some soil. In the soil, sometimes there are weeds and trees volunteering to grow there. Feel free to pick the weeds and trees and dispose of them in the woods. Also, you may take the trash home (there's more trash bags in the cupboards), water the flowers, sweep, or any other kind of cleaning you wish.
