Valhalla Mystery Cache

surferacf: It is sad to do, but I am saying goodbye to my remaining Geocaches. I miss this sport/hobby/obsession/lifestyle, but my busy schedule now prohibits me from participating. Add in the cost of gasoline and the presence of nothing but micros on my "unfound" query within the nearest 10 miles, and much of the fun is gone. Thanks for the memories; I'll try to pick this back up when I have more free time in my life.

Geocache Description:

The above coordinates are not correct! You will need to decode the puzzle below to get the real coordinates

The other weekend, I was helping my grandfather clean all the junk out of his attic he had accumulated over the years. Behind the sagging futon and my grandmother's wedding dress, I found a large steamer chest. I hauled it downstairs and asked my grandfather what it was. He opened the chest and revealed all of his stuff from his days in Europe from World War 2. We spent the rest of the afternoon marveling at the knick-knacks from Italy, the brick-a-bracks from France, and the trinkets from Germany. Then something at the bottom of the chest caught my eye. I took the cloth wrapped item out of the box, unwrapped it, and dusted it off. "Ah yes..." my grandfather marveled. "After the war was over, I took some time so see the sights in... Darn, now where was it? Northern I think...Ah well, anyway, I picked that up for your grandmother while there. I thought she'd have liked it for the mantle. Must have forgot about it. I wonder if she'd still want it there..." As my grandfather drifted off to clear a spot on the mantle, I looked at the bizaare wooden plank i was holding. It was covered in symbols I had never seen before, and was very worn. I turned it over, where to my surprise, I found a set of GPS coordinates:

N 42 41.203, W 083 08.378.

UPDATE: I've heard reports that the "Three Guards" referenced in the description are gone. They were three posts sunk into the middle of the trail just before the road. For now, do the projection from the middle of the trail in a place that looks like it used to have posts!

E-mail me if you have any questions.
