A straightforward, single offset cache, set on Carrickowel Point,
which separates Duporth and Porthpean beaches. The cache location
is set in a lightly wooded area, just off the Coastal
Footpath.
Porthpean Beach is effectively St. Austell’s main beach and as such
becomes very crowded in the summer months. It is home to the
Porthpean Sailing Club and visitors to Duporth Holiday village and
the County Outdoor Activity Centre at Higher Porthpean use the
beach. Parking is very limited but there is a private car park,
just up from the beach, at N50° 19.373 W004° 46.077
The given waypoint is for the entrance to the Porthpean Sailing
Club. Look at the wall of the clubhouse where you will see a plaque
giving the name of the club and the date it moved from the old
clubhouse on the beach to the ‘new’ clubhouse. The date is AB
Oct. CDEF.
The cache is hidden at N50° 19. B [D-C] [A+B] W004° 45.[E+C] F
B
To get there, you will need to descend to the beach and walk to the
end of the sea wall where the path rises up (the inevitable steps!)
to Carrickowel Point. Consequently the cache is not suitable for
wheelchairs/buggies and dogs are banned from the beach from Easter
Day until 1st October
