Geocache Description:

From Marin's Alpine Dam along the Kent Pump Road, this cache takes you through a wooded canyon to the outer reaches of Kent Lake. The first cache placed along this road.

This road to this cache begins at the Alpine Dam along the Bolinas-Fairfax road. There is limited parking at the trail head or around the dam. The dam was built in 1918 and twice-enlarged. It is particularly interesting when the lake is full and water falls down to the creek below.

The Kent Pump Road will take you to the cache. Except for the brief incline at the beginning, the road is generally flat -- some might even say that the road goes downhill from both directions. It is well-maintained and great for a family bicycle ride

The terrain rating is based on the length of the walk rather than the hardness of the route, so bring your bike if you can.

The road follows the route of a pipeline among towering redwoods and other trees along the canyon. There are brief glimpses of Kent Lake just before the road opens up at the pump house, where Carson Creek comes tumbling down. . . . at least after the rains have begun. The road continues further to Kent Lake. Osprey nest on top of the redwoods that were partially submerged when the lake rose.

As you approach the cache, there is a path to the right that marked by an informational sign. It leads to the Reposo Treasure Hunt and Carson Falls caches. The short trail immediately to the right of the cache area will take you to the start of the old Pine Mountain tunnel, which once pumped water to the Fairfax area. It is now used for storage, and another cache marks the its end near Fairfax.

My daughter helped place this cache just beyond the pump house. It is an ammo box, hidden on a wide ledge just above the road. My gpsr put the coordinates at an accuracy of 50' -- the hint and this description will narrow your search. Thanks to all those who have added other caches in the area to make this hike even more worthwhile.
