Welcome to FireLanterns-onopoly, or Flonopoly for short. A cache
series inspired by (but in no way associated with or endorsed by!)
the board game of a similar(ish) name. This series of caches will
take you to 28 locations around the streets of London, some well
known, some not so well known, but all of them made famous by that
great board name we all know and love.
The caches are mostly all 35mm and magnetic, containing log book
only, so bring a pen. Within each cache you will also find a small
Flonopoly logo, with a number on the back. Take careful note of
this number (and make sure you get the logo the right way up - turn
it round, not upside down - don't mix up those 6's and 9's!) - as
you will need all of these if you want to go for Flonopoly - Jail
and ultimatley Flonopoly - GO. If you make it all the way round
these London Streets, there will be a small Flonopoly reward as a
mark of respect for covering a lot of miles. Also if this is your
first Flonopoly cache, please take note of the date and time of
your first find - and when/if you do them all, the date and time of
your last, so when you log Flonopoly GO you can tell us how long it
took you to do the series !
Flonopoly Cache 17 - The Strand, in the City of Westminster,
heads east from Trafalgar Square to join Fleet Street at Temple
Bar, which marks the boundary of the City of London. Taking it's
name from the old english word for "shore", The Strand (or just
"Strand" - it is referred to as both) has been home to palaces,
theatres, shops & nightlife for over a few hundred years, and
The Strand is still central to London's theatre land today, being
home to The Adelphi, The Savoy, and The Vaudeville. Another useless
fact (!) to note, is that Savoy Court, a road towards the eastern
end of The Strand that leads to the Savoy Hotel, is the only street
in the UK where vehicles are required to drive on the right.
So, the cache - at the Trafalgar square end, and just off The
Strand itself, think grills of some description....
