How Geocaching Works
The cache is not located at the coordinates shown above!
Remember pi? It’s the mathematical constant that can be found by dividing the circumference of a circle by its diameter. You may have learned it in school as approximately 22/7 or 3.14. Pi is used in hundreds of equations in several sciences. This easy math puzzle uses pi to find the cache coordinates.
Pi has been calculated to more than a trillion decimal places, but for your use it should be rounded to four decimal places. Assuming the Earth’s diameter is 7926 miles, calculate its circumference to the nearest mile.
Let the value of pi = 3.ABCD and the Earth's circumference = EFGHI.
The cache is located at N 42 02.(B+C)DG W 091 37.EAF
This should be winter-friendly unless the snow is deep. Please stay inside the park boundaries and do not cross the nearby fence. You may check your coordinates with Geochecker here: (visit link)
