Another serious one. HG will always tell you it how it is. You might have an issue and he’ll listen and then he’ll say what he thinks. You might not like it but it’ll be the truth, and you’ll go away and reflect on it and realise that he was absolutely right, and that how he suggested you deal with it is actually the correct thing to do. He offers a logical analysis of difficult situations and makes you see them from a different perspective. He’ll make you stop in your tracks when you are ranting and raving by making a well-chosen comment and you’ll suddenly come to your senses and be aware of how inappropriately you are dealing with things.. I know all this, and I’ve learned that any advice he gives invariably works. I trust his guidance but it still infuriates me that he’s right all the bleedin’ time!
He’ll also happily tell you the truth whether you ask for it or not. He’ll tell you if your trousers are too gaudy or if they are like pyjamas. He’ll tell you if you have “mouth bogies”, he’ll tell you exactly what he thinks of your stuffed apricots. He’ll delight in pointing out your shortcomings or mistakes and will keep a mental note of them so that he can bring them up weeks, months even years later. And yet this trait too only serves to make him more endearing to us.
