This is the third in a series of caches around the lovely South Yorkshire village of Wentworth located between Rotherham and Barnsley. The series aims to introduce the visitor to some of the places of interest to be found on the Wentworth Estate - a veritable jewel set amongst the otherwise mostly industrial landscape of South Yorkshire.
THIS IS A MULTI CACHE
The cache is located close to Hoober Stand, one of the 4 monuments/follies on the Wentworth Estate in South Yorkshire.
Hoober Stand was built in 1747-8 to commemorate defeat of the Jacobite rebellion in 1745, when the 1st Marquis (then plain Thomas Watson Wentworth) fought on the side of King George II. In recognition of his contribution, the King elevated Wentworth to Marquis, and the new Marquis decided to build the 30 metre tower to show his gratitude
More reading/background regarding Hoober Stand is available at http://www.wentworthvillage.net/ and is well worth investigating before your expedition to this and the other Wentworth Wander caches to make your day more interesting and worthwhile
The monument is open on Sundays and Bank Holidays during the season ... see photo for more details
In order to find the cache you will first have to visit Hoober Stand at the given coords (external access available all year)and answer the following question:
👉 In what year in the 20th century did Paul Cotton carve his name here?
Add the last 2 digits of the year to N53 28.854 and subtract them from W001 23.387 to reveal the final cache location, which is located not far away.
