Geocache Description:

Buffalo's Travel Bug Camp is especially designed as a stopping-off point for TBs and GeoCoins in Columbus.

During the pre-Colonial, Colonial, and Revolutionary War eras what is now known as "Polk County" was a hunting ground and trade route for regional Indians, a pathway for early explorers, and a frontier outpost. The Overmountain Men came from Tennessee on their way to the Battle of King's Mountain and camped here at Alexander's Ford on October 5th 1780. This Patriot militia helped defeat the Loyalists at King's Mountain on October 7th 1780 and turned Cornwallis' British forces back on their march from Charleston to capture Charlotte. This single battle turned the tide of the American Revolution for the previously discouraged Patriots and the Continental Congress.

Travel Bugs and GeoCoins also deserve a convenient place to rest in their journeys far and wide. The cache is an easy find located adjacent to paved parking. The container is well hidden in a slightly overgrown area that was originally deeded to Columbus in 1855 as an extra-wide street for horse and buggy parking at a nearby establishment.
