New Englanders are a proud people living in an area rich with heritage and beauty. Local cachers have an appreciation of the unique areas New England has to offer. From Maine's rugged coast to the White Mountains of New Hampshire to Connecticut's Peoples State Forest to the Quabbin Reservoir in Massachusetts to Vermont's Long Trail to the spectacular lighthouses of Rhode Island, no one place can define New England's wealth of diversity.
Perhaps Henry Cabot Lodge captured the New Englander spirit best when he said, “New England has a harsh climate, a barren soil, a rough and stormy coast, and yet we love it, even with a love passing that of dwellers in more favored regions."
We, as your New England reviewers, offer this challenge cache as a way of thanking our fellow cachers for helping us find these wonderful places as a result of your cache placements. This challenge takes you to the roots of caching in New England by having you visit its oldest state caches. We'd like to think that as you make your way to these historic caches that inspired hundreds of other cachers to place the caches that you found and inspired you to place a cache for others, that you'll take a moment to remember what inspired you to cache! Once you have found these caches and the cache at the above coordinates, you may log this as a find.
Should one of the oldest caches become disabled or archived it cannot be counted toward completion of the challenge and it will be necessary to use what is the oldest active cache at the time the completion of the challenge is claimed. The list is only a convenience.
