Geocache Description:

Micro hidden next to the busy Los Gatos Creek Trail close to a popular hangout for fish-lovers

The north pond at Los Gatos Creek County Park is the best fishing lake along Los Gatos Creek, below Lexington Dam. In the cooler months, it is stocked with rainbow trout. This attracts fishermen, but the pond has its resident fishers: cormorants. They sit on power lines above the pond, waiting for a finned meal. This cache is near where they hang out. This would normally be an easy cache, but what makes it challenging is the number of muggles constantly streaming by on the Los Gatos Creek Trail. The cache is right next to the trail. To hide it, I waited for a gap between trail users. You may have to do the same to retrieve it. Pretend you're looking at the birds. If you're familiar with the Los Gatos Creek Trail, you may be able to find this without a GPS, just from the description. This is a sign-only cache. You should bring your own pen. Seal up the cache tight when you're done and make sure it's out of sight.

Update 7/3/06
The original cache was a victim of groundskeeping. This replacement cache is a short distance away, but should be immune to groundskeeping. It's a different type of container and smaller. It's also in a different type of location. Your hands should not smell like licorice.

Update 11/20/06
I can't believe the cache got muggled. I was thinking of all kinds of evil, sneaky caches to replace it. Finally, I decided to just do a traditional micro hide. It's close to the original cache location. It should be easy for cachers to find, which is why I dropped the difficulty rating, but hopefully it should be harder for muggles to find. That's if muggles don't see you retrieving the cache. Be discreet. The hint tells you how.

Update 1/30/07
There is trail construction going on on the Los Gatos Creek Trail that may temporarily prevent access to the cache. Don't go jumping over any barriers to get to it. Come back another time.

Update 11/20/08: One of the previous caches was resurrected from the dead. I hid it in one of the earlier locations. Now there are 2 caches backing up each other, both nearly identical, but one may be considerably harder to find than the other.

Update 10/19/11: The replacement seems to have disappeared, but the original is still there, in its original location, which has grown back. As it's harder to find, I raised the difficulty. However, this can vary a lot, depending on where it's re-hidden.

Update 1/14/12: I put a cheap replacement micro in the cache's original location. Watch out for muggles.

Update 5/18/13: Groundskeeping strikes again. I replaced the cache with a naked container of the same type. Make sure it's hidden from muggles.

Update 7/28/13: Muggled again, maybe. I replaced it with a flat container in the same place. Please make sure it's covered.

Update 12/7/13: The flat container is good for summer, but it's not as waterproof as a round container. I replaced the cache with a round one that is hopefully more waterproof. Make sure it stays hidden.

Update 4/19/14: The cache was muggled, I think. I replaced with a similar container in a similar location. The hint still works.

Update 6/19/14: The replacement cache appears to have been muggled. I'm giving up on this location. It's too obvious for muggles. I replaced the cache a short distance away. The previous cache was at N 37° 15.926 W 121° 57.028, which you can see from the new site. This one is a little more out of the flow of muggle traffic.
