Trial By Miles Multi-cache

This cache has been archived.

FSU*Noles: What, cigarettes and coupons and all the good stuff is gone?? I'm guessing that means she's been plundered, since the last count shows that there should be all kinds of goodies still left in there.

Unfortunately I am in San Diego right now, and it'll be a long while before I get back home to take a look, so I'll disable it for now. When time permits, I'll scout out a new location for the final stage and bring 'er back online again - more soon, thanks!

Geocache Description:

This cache is located off the public-access trail system at the Elm Creek Playfields, near Wayzata Senior High School. It is on City Park/Open Space grounds, not on school property, and can be accessed from other directions if you're not comfortable parking or walking close to the school. In the summer the tree cover keeps the woods cool, but will also be hard on your GPS signals...in the winter it is peaceful and scenic, but can also be treacherous and hard to navigate. Enjoy!

Cache Details This is a simple, two-stage multi-cache. We used to live a few blocks from here, and would walk these trails almost every night...each of the two stages is located at a favorite play place of Sam, our Big Dumb Dog, who used to love to romp around in these woods. The first stage is a micro-cache that contains the coordinates to the second stage. The second stage is a small traditional cache that contains a few goodies we're giving back to the caching community - our way of saying thanks for all the fun and enjoyment we've received from finding other hides. Please limit your take to a single item (except TB's of course) so that others can claim a prize too...if the cache survives, I will re-stock it every so often for new finders. The original contents are:
  • One Unactivated USA Geocoin
  • Two Unactivated Travel Bug Dog Tags
  • $10 Target Gift Card
  • $10 Holiday Gas/Gift Card
  • $5 Dollar Bill
  • 32mb Sony USB Micro Vault
  • "The Boy" Travel Bug
  • Hot Wheels Batmobile
  • Log Book, Pencils, and Sharpener

Location, Parking, and Access To get to the Elm Creek Playfields, take Highway 55 to Peony Lane, and go north over the bridge. Watch your speed on Peony, many people (myself included) have been tagged on this road. Turn left at the light in front of WHS and follow the parking lot over to the playfield's public parking. During school hours, parking may be scarce - during football games, parking will be impossible! If you visit during summer, after school hours, or on a weekend (highly recommended), don't turn at the light - instead, go straight through and turn left behind WHS. There is a small parking lot for cars back there, along with official parking for school buses. If there are no buses here, you can park anywhere in this lot - this will also place you directly at the trailhead marker that gives this cache it's name, and might save you some walking as well. The trailhead is at N 45° 02.746 W 093° 30.550 - click the picture link below (above the logs, next to the map) to see a picture of the view. The official woodchip path is easy walking with some hills thrown in, but will lead you against the advice of your GPSr arrow. Most any path you decide to bushwhack will have a steep hill on the way, so please be careful in the snow, ice, rain and mud. Some stealth will be required, as there are people walking or running the paths most any time of day, except during the winter. The coordinates were obtained over five different days using 100+ waypoint averaging, but the terrain makes the signals pretty funky near stage one, so keep an eye out and think like a geocacher. Any suggestions or advice will gladly be accepted in order to improve this cache and our future hides - thanks, good luck, and happy hunting!
