Nessmuk Lake Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

TheWildRoots: I'm still uncertain what is going to be done, if anything, at ground zero as far as construction goes. I most likely will have to change the cache location and the size of the container. So I'm archiving with the hopes of creating an all new cache after construction is over/weather gets warmer. Sorry Everyone!

Geocache Description:

Short almost level walk from the parking area.

Lake Nessmuk is named after George Washington Sears (1821-1890), a famous outdoor writer, woodsman, and pioneer conservationist who was a resident of Wellsboro. As an author he adopted the pen name Nessmuk. At "The Green" in the middle of Wellsboro there is an historical marker that gives some information about this fascinating man.

The lake was constructed for flood control after the flood of 1972. The boat launch area and fishing are managed by the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission which has leased the land for recreational use to the Wellsboro Area Dept. of Parks and Recreation, which has given permission for placement of this cache.

Mugglers, mostly fishermen, regularly frequent the area so stealth is required. It's a beautiful spot that lends itself well to photo ops.
