When I was growing up I was a Phillies fan, but I did pay
attention to some of the players on the other teams, especially the
players on rival National League East teams.
One player I really noticed was Rusty Staub. Although he started
out with the Houston Colt .45's and ended his major league career
with the New York Mets, it was during his time with the Montreal
Expos that he earned the nickname Le Grand Orange.
Rusty Staub stood out among players at that time for me because
of his red hair, good hitting, and an overall good rapport with his
teammates, players on opposing teams, and fans.
So here's a little orange for Le Grand Orange!
